Now that the 2013 Lehigh Valley Hunting and Fishing Extravaganza is now history, the show’s co-director, Bob Danenhower of Orefield, looks forward to next year’s show that will be held Aug. 22-24 at Kempton Fairgrounds.
As for this year, Danenhower says the shows’ great weather attributed to an excellent attendance over its three-day run. Said Danenhower, “Friday started out with a pretty good crowd that I call “Pappy Day,” as it’s always been a day for grandparents to bring the grandkids without having to negotiate the mobs of people during the weekend. As usual, the kids’ fishing area was crowded and most kids that caught lunker fish thoughtfully opted to release them so others could enjoy catching them. It’s amazing how a slimy fish can create a big smile on a youngsters’ face.”
Danenhower went on to say Saturday and Sunday were busy for all vendors and Sunday was particularly active with the hunting dog competition.
Since there was a host of competitions sponsored by Rothrock Motors, Horwith Freightliner, Cabela’s in Hamburg, Limestone Springs Trout Hatchery and Route 33 Self Storage Centers, competitors are always eager to find out who won and what. So the categories and winners are listed as follows.
REMINGTON 870 YOUTH SHOTGUN
Kaitlyn Kuinis, 10, of Macungie was the lucky winner who, along with her dad who she often accompanies target shooting, was happy and anxious to pick up the gun according to Ed Razzis, of East Penn Builders who donated the shotgun for the prize.

KIDS FISHING CONTEST
With over 350 fish stocked, only 75 were caught, none of which were the 15 specially tagged prize fish. Despite this, nine of 12 rod and reel sets, donated Cabela’s of Hamburg, were given out with the remainder included as part of other kids prize packages.
