“You can’t go wrong with Wrights!”
Lee Wrights, longtime activist in the libertarian movement and more recently in Libertarian Party of Texas politics will formally announce his candidacy Tuesday, November 2 for the LP Gubernatorial Nomination.
The setting is “The Governor’s Suite,” a large private room in the Love & War In Texas restaurant in Grapevine, a definitive Texas food and music venue.
Wrights gave Dallas Libertarian Examiner two reasons for seeking the nomination.
“First of all, if I can manage to obtain just 2% of the vote the Libertarian Party of Texas will maintain its ballot access throughout the next election cycle,” Wrights said. “Second, and more importantly, the good people of Texas deserve a real choice for governor, a real alternative called Liberty and Freedom!”
Wrights said his primary goal was “offering a true choice to the people of Texas of reasonable alternatives to government interventions.”
His overall theme will focus on finding savings in government and demonstrating how wasteful spending and corporate welfare can be replaced by frugality and true fiduciary responsibility.
Wrights has a first-rate resume for the job.
He’s Vice Chair of the Libertarian National Committee, president of the Foundation For A Free Society, managed Dr. Mary J. Ruwart’s 2008 presidential campaign in which she finished “a very close second” to Bob Barr, and ran himself for the same position in 2012, finishing second to Gary Johnson.
Wrights has an extensive background in promoting libertarianism on a national scale, having been involved as either founder, co-founder or editor of such online venues as Liberty For All, Free Market Daily, Rational Review News Digest, the Choice Channel for the International Society for Individual Liberty and the Million Vote March project.
“Give me the opportunity, “Wrights insists, “and I will bring back the concept of a public office being a community service, not a feeding trough for special interests and corporate big shots. Vote for me. You can’t go wrong with Wrights.”
The November 2 event is described as a “Pay For Your Own Chicken Fried Steak” fundraiser, making it part of the Texas “Rubber Chicken” Fried Steak Speaking Circuit?
Kathie Glass and Gene Chapman have also declared as Texas LP gubernatorial candidates.
