Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Parker Kligerman is back in his element this weekend: road course racing. After last week’s sixth-place finish at Watkins Glen International, Kligerman and the No. 77 Bandits Chippers Toyota Camry will join the rest of the Nationwide Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio for the inaugural Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 on Saturday, August 17th.
The hood of Kligerman’s Camry will feature a picture of Payton Julian, 9, from Mansfield, Ohio, a patient at the pediatric hospital located near Columbus. Julian “defeated” Wilms’ Tumor, a type of kidney cancer that occurs in children, while a patient at the facility in 2008. The youngster will be Kligerman’s guest at the driver’s meeting, driver introductions and sit on the KBM team’s pit box during the race.
In addition to last week’s run at The Glen, Kligerman also earned a third-place finish at Road America earlier this year.
“Mid-Ohio is one of the great American road courses – it has such a rich history,” said Kligerman on the KBM website. “Eric (Phillips, crew chief) and all the guys on this No. 77 team have built really fast race cars for the road course races and I expect we’ll have another fast one this weekend. Mid-Ohio is a very technical course – you need to have a car that transitions well and it provides a pretty good amount of braking points – so I think my background on road courses will really help me out. With it being just down the road from Nationwide’s headquarters it is a big deal for everyone in this series. Nationwide Insurance is doing a lot of cool things to help raise awareness for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and I’m honored to have one of their “champion patients” on the hood of my Bandit Chippers Camry. It will be cool to meet Payton on Saturday and be able to show him around. From what I’ve read, he’s overcome a lot in his life and is an inspiration to us all.”
Nationwide Series qualifying for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 takes place Saturday at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by the race at 2:30 p.m. ET. Keep up with the action at www.nascar.com and www.kylebuschmotorsports.com.
