The Jefferson County SPCA has provided animal advocacy in Watertown and the surrounding area since its founding in 1891. The shelter survives with the generous support of the community in the form of donations, fundraisers and volunteerism. Last winter, a new satellite adoption site opened at PetCo Town Center with help from the PetCo Foundation’s generous grant. The new site has allowed the SPCA to continue its mission in an even bigger way and has resulted in a considerable increase in the number of adoptions.
We invite you to continue your generous support of this worthy cause and join us for a number of exciting events scheduled for the autumn and winter seasons.
The next fundraiser is the 18th Annual Bowl-A-Thon on Saturday, October 19th at Pla-Mor Lanes on State Street in Watertown. Registration starts at 12 p.m. and bowling begins at 1 p.m. For just $20 you can enjoy 3 games of bowing. The donation includes shoes, a delicious meal from Savory Café generously sponsored by the Best Western Hotel located on Washington Street, and awards for most gutter balls, strikes, high score and more. Last year over $4,000 was raised between sponsors and bowlers. This year it would be wonderful to break last year’s record and reach a goal of $5000. With the community’s help, we can achieve this.
To join in the fun go to the website and click on “Fundraisers and Events”. Scroll down to find the instructions, pledge sheets, and registration forms.
Then, grab some friends or coworkers and create a team. Each lane can have up to 6 people. No minimum amount of money is required for pledges, however, there will be an award for most pledges raised. All of the proceeds directly benefit the love and care of our animals.
Register early and avoid the long line at check in. Print the forms and fax or mail them to the shelter with your registration fee. You can also call the shelter and register over the phone if you would like to pay with a credit card. If you prefer, you can sign up the day of the event, but cannot be guaranteed a spot – so register yourself or your team today.
Annual Holiday Giving Campaign
It’s that time of year again when we will soon begin preparing for the upcoming holidays. As you prepare for the holiday season the SPCA asks that you don’t forget about all of the unwanted animals in your community sitting in the shelter waiting to be adopted into their “fur-ever” homes.
Our Giving Campaign is a way to donate anything from $1 to $1000 or more. Every dollar adds up quickly. Last year your generosity raised over $20,000 for the animals. The goal this year is $25,000. Watch your mail in early November for a letter from the shelter with a donation form inside. If you don’t receive one and would like to support the SPCA’s goal, call the shelter at 315-782-3260 and donate over the phone with a credit card or go to the JCSPCA website. It’s that easy.
20th Annual Bark-n-Wine Auction
The SPCA’s 20th Annual Auction will be held February 8th, 2014, at the Hilton Garden Inn. The details are in the works and the SPCA promises to keep us posted on their website.
The auction committee has begun to gather items. If you would like to donate a basket, item, or service for auctioning please call the shelter at 315-782-3260 and staff members will gladly assist you.
The SPCA thanks the Hilton Garden Inn and Sam’s Club for partnering with them to make this annual event the rousing success it is certain to be.
Note: Jennifer Schnabel is the chairperson of the SPCA’s fundraising committee, and acting secretary for the Board of Trustees. She does an exceptional job of coordinating these fundraisers along with all of the many activities the shelter staff and volunteers are involved with year round. Thank you Jennifer!
The SPCA of Jefferson County is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding permanent and loving homes for homeless pets, providing them with a healthy environment, and promoting the humane treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership through education and community awareness.
