A manhunt is currently underway in New Orleans for those responsible for the senseless shooting death of a beautiful little 1-year-old girl, and the shooting and wounding of the toddler’s babysitter. The violent shootings erupted on the streets of New Orleans last night, Aug. 29, around 8:20 p.m.
According to NBC News:
The 18-year-old woman caring for little Londyn Samuels was wounded in the Thursday night shooting in the Central City neighborhood — where the police chief denounced the violence as “unacceptable.”
“This is a time when the people and the city of New Orleans have to rally together,” Superintendent Ronal Serpas said at the scene, appealing for tips from the community.
“Let us go make these people accountable for what they did.”
Tyrin Samuels, 23, the baby’s uncle, was at a football game when he received the news that his niece had been shot.
NBC quoted the uncle as saying:
“They said, ‘Londyn got shot,’ and I almost dropped my phone.”
“I said, ‘What? How could that be?'”
Uncle Tyrin joined other family members and friends at the hospital, where they were informed that little Londyn did not survive the shooting.
Londyn’s mom, Andrea Samuels, was understandably inconsolable at hearing that her 1-year-old daughter had perished.
Police say that after Londyn’s babysitter heard those two bullet shots ring out last night, that she tried to rush the baby indoors; but they had both already been hit.
Police were on the scene within a minute but the shooters had already fled on foot.
SWAT teams were in the area of the shootings today, canvassing the neighborhood and “questioning two women and a man who had been uncooperative.”
As of this writing, no arrests have been made.
“If you seen something, come forward,” Tyrin Samuels said. “Justice has to be done. This has to be solved to get murderers off the street.”
“Londyn was a playful little baby. She never really cried too much, she was just happy,” he said. “I just loved everything about her.”
A $5,000 reward is available for information leading to the arrest and indictment of suspects wanted in the shootings, according to CBS News.
