The fashion world has a direct connection to the types of items that end up in our homes. Each season fashion runways showcase the new styles and trends that will set the stage for all of our purchases of that season. These fashion trends find their ways to our home design worlds without realizing we are even buying the new trends. This year the top trends are simple elegance, plaid, foreign inspired style, belle curve, sweaters, wild things, cobalt blue, film noir, romantic dresses, moto jackets, and the little black dress. While this list is not all-encompassing, it does list the main trends that will influence home design in the upcoming seasons. For the full scoop, check out InStyle’s article on fall fashion trends.
Simple elegance just means that pieces will become more streamlined and will be more architectural in nature. This is easy to translate into your home by choosing pieces that are made of quality materials but are simple in nature without extra fuss or ornament. On the other end of this scale, is the foreign inspired style. This style takes the elegance and ornamentation of foreign nations and adds it to fabric pieces. Look for embroidery and intricate beading. The easiest way to add this style to a space is through pillows and drapes. These two styles, while on opposite ends of the design spectrum, they can work together to balance each other.
Plaid and cobalt blue are pretty self-explanatory. When it comes to plaid you are not limited to traditional tartans. There are simple black and white plaids that work with more modern spaces. Plaid is also being mixed into modern design making it a more modern fabric as time goes on. Cobalt blue is a striking color that adds a jolt to any space. It pairs well with darker navy tones or corals for a bright palette.
Belle curve, feminine dresses and the little black dress add a girly, sexy element to design. They accent the features of a woman and in home decor they add a feminine touch through luxurious fabrics like silk and lace. Look for overlays and floral prints as well. Film noir is also feminine but with a more daring, dark look.
Finally, moto jackets and wild things add a little edge to those feminine styles. The moto jacket trend has been around for a long time and in the home design world you will find pieces with exaggerated hardware and zippers. The wild thing trend adds a little call of the wild to the home. You can find pieces already on shelves in your favorite animal print or a luxurious faux fur that just begs you to cuddle in for the cooler nights.
No matter which trend(s) you like this season, they will all be making an appearance in your local home goods store. Shop around for the pieces that make the most sense for your space.
