After the republicans in the senate rolled over for President Obama, the House has decidsed not to back down and are currently adding two amendments to budget bill to keep the government running. The first is to delay the implimentation of Obamacare by one year and the second is to eliminate the medical device tax, which is a major fundraiser for the Obamacare bill, but which is seen as counterproductive by republicans and many democrats alike.
Many are predicting that the democratic senate will reject the bill out of hand and Majority Leader Harry Reid has called the amendments, “pointless”. Nancy pelosi also had some harsh but confusing words on the measure:
“The Senate has acted in a clear way to keep government open. Instead, House Republicans are insisting on not one but two proposals to shut down government.”
“The Republican measure is a gift to the insurance companies by putting them back in charge of Americans’ health care, and it is a complete abdication of responsibility on the part of the House Republican leadership as they bow yet again to the ransom demands of the Tea Party.
“Republicans have made their point, now we have to end it. They must abandon this dangerous path to create a Republican Government Shutdown and work with Democrats on a responsible plan to keep the government working for the American people, responsibly reduce the deficit, and create economic prosperity and jobs for all middle class families.”
Pelosi claims that the republican plan benefits the insurance companies, when exactly the opposite is true. Under the full version of Obamacare, the insurance companies, who can make up to 20% on healthcare policies. But the higher premiums needed to support the ACA and the fact that everyone must have a policy is a huge boost for insurance companies. Now they are either competitive and affordable or people don’t buy.
Secondly, she claims that republicans must surrender to democrats who will issue responsible cuts in the budget, create economic prosperity, and jobs for the middle class. But the democratic party plan is to increase spending and thus the debt, and in five years have not done a thing for the economy, choosing instead to concentrate on Obamacare, gay marriage, amnesty for illegal aliens, and free contraceptives and of the 29 jobs bills passed by the House, all 29 were rejected by the House democrats and ignored by the senate democrats.
The creation of an additional 7 trillion to the national debt has not benefitted the economy, which continues to set new records for unemployment and shrinking wages, not to mention the erosion of the American workforce.
The House plans on passing their amendments tonight, sending the bill back to the Senate, which may assure at least a temporary shutdown of the government.
