2013 has been one of those years that has been packed with summer festivals and tours. The Rock Allegiance Tour was one of the most talked about rock festivals this time around. Danish rockers Volbeat headlined the tour and incorporated the bands HIM, All That Remains, and Airbourne as support acts.
The tour consisted of twenty four dates including major cities like Los Angeles, CA and Brooklyn, NY. The show in Los Angeles took place at The Hollywood Palladium on September 16th. This venue seemed to be a great fit for the kind of crowd that was expected for this show.
All That Remains was the first band to take the stage. Their set consisted of ten songs and lasted for 45 minutes. The performance seemed to leave fans ready for the next act. Finnish band HIM took the stage later that night with a 70-minute performance. Even though they were not the main act of the night, it seemed that fans thought otherwise. The crowd seemed to go crazy at the sight of the band and sang along to all songs. The band played songs from most of their albums including their latest, “Tears On Tape”. Tracks like “All Lips Go Blue” and “Into The Night” were part of the setlist.
Even though HIM seemed to have the biggest amount of fans attending, some of were interested in seeing the other bands as well. All three bands seemed to have their own sound and fans in the crowd. Some seemed to be there for one particular favorite. When asked about this, Gas Lipstick from HIM commented the following: “I definitely know that there are all kinds of fans here and that not everyone likes us but whenever we’re on stage we can feel and hear our fans which is all that we want at the end of the day”. HIM’s performance was followed by a performance from Volbeat.
On September 28th Rock Allegiance made its last stop in Brooklyn, NY. The location for the show was called The Waterfront which was surprisingly bigger and different from the venue in Los Angeles. This time the venue was outdoors.
All That Remains was once again the first band to take the stage. Their setlist was similar and the band sounded just as good as last time. HIM took the stage shortly after and once again proved to be the main act of the night. Dedicated fans stood in the front row to cheer and scream for their favorite band. Singer Ville Valo‘s unique lyrics mixed with the incredible live sound of the band made it one of the best live performances I’ve seen in 2013. The is no doubt that HIM was Rock Allegiance’s biggest performer.
HIM’s latest album “Tears On Tape” is available now via Razor & Tie.
