Many Chicago-land golf courses have water hazards that cross their fairways. Golf course designers construct these courses so that golfers do not need to wade through the water hazards to get to the putting greens; therefore, they design bridges over the water hazards. Chicago-land, golf course bridges are in Cook County.
None of Chicago-land, golf course bridges cross rivers or lakes. The largest bodies of water that these bridges cross are canals. The smallest bodies of water that these bridges cross are pools.
Chicago Park District golf courses consist of six golf courses. Of the nine holes courses, of which there are five, only Marquette Golf Course has bridges; it has two. Jackson Park Golf Course, which is the only, 18 holes course, has one bridge.
Forest Preserve golf courses consist of 10 courses. The following are the bridges at some of these courses: Burnham = 1, Caldwell = 1, Chick Evans = 5, Edgebrook = 3 and River Oaks = 3. The other, five golf courses, which are George Dunne, Highland, Indian Boundary, Joe Louis and Meadowlark, do not have any bridges.
The following list describes 10 bridges. These bridges are on one, Chicago Park District golf course and two, Forest Preserve golf courses. This list also contains two bridges at Evanston-Wilmette Community Golf Course, and one mini-bridge at Douglas Park’s, miniature golf course.

Chick Evans 9th Bridge-Wooden Construct
This wooden bridge, which leads from the eighth hole (par four) to the ninth hole (par four), is at Chick Evans Golf Course. Golfers will have a long walk, uphill to this bridge because the distance from the eighth hole’s putting green to this bridge is more than 100 feet. Chick Evans Golf Course is in Morton Grove, Ill.
Chick Evans 10th Bridge-Concrete
This concrete bridge straddles the creek at Chick Evans Golf Course’s, 10th hole. (You should see this bridge in the left, middle ground.) The 10th hole is par three, and the bridge slopes downward.
Concrete Bridge-Chick Evans 17th Hole
This is a long distance view of Chick Evans Golf Course’s, 17th hole bridge. This bridge has concrete construction and crosses over a creek. Canada Geese like to stroll on this creek’s banks, and these geese will also poop on this bridge’s concrete. The 17th hole is par four, and the bridge is entirely within this hole’s layout.
Concrete Bridge-Chick Evans 18th Hole
Chick Evans Golf Course’s, 18th hole bridge is entirely within this hole’s layout. This bridge, which is concrete, crosses over a creek that leads from the elevated teeing grounds to the flat putting green. The 18th hole is par three, and has a maximum, average distance of 191 yards from the rear putting green.
Douglas Park 3rd Hole Mini Bridge
This miniature bridge has bricks for construction material. Crossing over a pool of water, this bridge is at Douglas Park’s, miniature golf course on Chicago’s west side. In summer, dragonflies, gnats and mosquitoes hover around this bridge and its pool.
Evanston-Wilmette 7th Hole Bridge
This is a medium, long-range view from Evanston-Wilmette Community Golf Course’s, seventh hole. This metallic bridge (left, middle area) is part of Maple Avenue, and crosses the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal. Golfers will need to use this bridge to get from the seventh hole’s (par three) teeing grounds to the seventh hole’s putting green. In addition, golfers will need to use this bridge to get to the third hole’s (par four) teeing grounds.
Evanston-Wilmette 14th Metallic Bridge
This metallic bridge arches across the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in Evanston, Ill. The bridge is part of Evanston-Wilmette Community Golf Course’s, 14th hole. The 14th hole is par three, and has an average, downhill distance from the teeing grounds to the putting green of 148 yards.
Jackson Park G.C. 11th Hole Bridge
This Jackson Park Golf Course bridge crosses the pond at this golf course’s, 11th hole. (This hole is par four.) This bridge is metallic (hand rails), concrete (foundation) and wooden (walking across material). Jackson Park Golf Course is the only 18 holes, Chicago Park District golf course.
Metallic-Wooden Bridge-Chick Evans 14th Hole
This metallic-wooden bridge leads from the 14th hole’s teeing grounds to the 14th hole’s fairway at Chick Evans Golf Course. (The 14th hole is par five.) At this point, this creek has miniature rapids.
River Oaks G.C. Creek Bridge
The bridge, which is concrete, is in the right background. The bridge leads from River Oaks Golf Course’s, 12th hole’s teeing grounds to the 12th hole’s fairway. Although this course’s website states that the Little Calumet River winds through this course, in my opinion at this location, this water is more like a creek than a river.
