UPDATE: We are very happy to report that Shirlee and her family have been reunited with Eddie thanks to a Seffner family who spotted the dog and contacted Shirlee! Our deepest condolences to Daniel’s family. We hope Eddie helps you find peace through this tragedy.
SEFFNER, FL – An Ohio mother grieving the sudden loss of her only son in a car accident is asking for help in finding his best friend, a German Shepherd named Eddie, who escaped from the car after the crash.
Her son rescued Eddie from a shelter and they’ve been inseparable ever since – until now.
Daniel Selzar, 32, tragically died on Friday from injuries sustained in an accident at the intersection of Lakewood Drive and W. Windhorst Rd.
When deputies noticed Eddie in the backseat and reached for him, the frightened dog took off into nearby Limona Park.
After losing her husband six months ago and now her son, Shirlee Gorka is devastated but determined to find her son’s dog. The fact that he is running scared has only added to her heartbreak.
She knows getting Eddie back will help her feel like she is still holding on to a part of Daniel.
“I can’t bring my son back so it’s a little part of my son to remind us every day that he’s still with us,” she said.
She’s hoping someone will find Eddie before she returns to Ohio tomorrow to bury her son, but if that doesn’t happen, she’s not giving up – she will return to Florida to continue the search.
If anyone has found Eddie or knows of his whereabouts, please call Shirlee Gorka at (440) 915-3581.
Please share to help reunite this heartbroken mom and her grand-dog.
