On Tuesday, Perez Hilton reported on possible cast departures from “Grey’s Anatomy.” Fans reacted to the headlines, as the two lead characters, Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek Sheperd are reported to be leaving the show.
According to the report, Shonda Rhimes creator of Grey’s and “Scandal” is fairly certain that at least one original cast member is leaving the show at the end of the season. Rhimes quipped:
“Last time they kept me guessing up until almost the last minute, which was really stressful. This time I asked to know much sooner, so that we could plan for it. If one of the Originals is going to be leaving I want to give them the beautiful exit they deserve. I don’t want to be kept guessing about what’s going to happen.”
Currently the rumor mill is swirling around the departure of Ellen Pompeo [Dr. Meredith Grey]. Other are certain that Patrick Dempsey who plays the “McDreamy” role of Dr. Derek Sheperd is the ready to walk off the show. Rumors have swirled since last week’s interview, when Dempsey said: “Whether or not we’re in the show, I think the show will continue on. I know Shonda [Rhimes] would like it to continue.”
With rumors of several cast members ready to leave the show, Perez gave the suggestion that all the “Originals” should leave the show and form a spin-off series. Perez has reported that Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, and Chandra Wilson might also be scheduled for departure.
One website gave a realistic prediction of possible changes, Janelle from Grey’s Anatomy Addicts dished:
“I would not be happy if Ellen Pompeo [Dr. Meredith Grey] or Sandra Oh [Dr. Cristina Yang] were to leave as I think the show would die a slow death. Janelle added: “Not sure about the others, although many fans are saying they won’t watch if Dempsey goes, which I don’t think he will.”
Janelle gave some of her reasoning for the predictions, and fans are hoping that Janelle is right about Dempsey staying. Give Janelle your predictions via Twitter.
We asked Beth in Arizona, how she would feel if two major characters or if the entire original cast were to leave as Perez Hilton suggested. Her reaction was adamant:
“That sucks! That’s not the show – that would ruin the show. I don’t know if I’d stop watching. I guess it would depend on how good the storylines were. I mean, I might watch maybe, if the medical stories are good.” She added: “It would be hard for them to create new characters that I would like.”
The in-depth interview with Dempsey, gives a clue as to what might happen with his decision to stay or go. Hint – his reason has something to do with race cars. It seems that the fictional hospital, may need to hire a few new doctors.
