French Montana – Excuse My French – Album Review | by SIC ILL
This is the debut album from Bad Boy Records signed artist French Montana. Once in a while starts the album off, he talks about it being murder when there’s money on the line. Trap House is the second track featuring Birdman and Rick Ross, its about how when your doing it as big as a boss you’re name starts getting mentioned in the same places as drug overlords. Ain’t worried about nuthin is a single worthy track, club banger. Paranoid is a track about watching your back from your enemies. On When I want, French talks about gettin what he wants because of of his wealth, hustle and networking. Fuck What Happens is atrack featuring an all star line-up, DJ Khaled, Mavado, Ace Hood, Snoop Dogg and Scarface, this is a street anthem, mavado comes thru on the gritty chorus talking about how true jamaicans even kill their own family to get what they want.
Gifted features The Weekend, he talks about being down for whatever as long as he’s a little tipsy and how people only love him when he’s intoxicated or high and when people loves him he makes money, so why should he stop, French gives a couple shout-outs to legends in music, sports, Hugh Hefner on this one. Ballin Out features bad boy records hip hop mogul P. Diddy and r&b crooner Jeremih, this track is about being materialistic and being grateful for it. I Told em is about doing you and getting away from hateful people and bad women. Pop That features an all-star cast with hip hop giants Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Drake, this is a stripper/club track. Freaks is a dance/club track featuring Nicki Minaj, Nicki does her thang puttin down a classic verse. We Go Where Ever We Want features Ne-Yo & Raekwon over a classic wu-tang instrumental, French gives a shout-out to Ghostface Killah when he had the watch with the golden eagle on it, the topic is about how most people can’t go where he goes because they haven’t put in the same amount of work. Bust It Open is another stripper track for ratchet females and freaks. Drink Freely features Rico Love is a drinking anthem directed at beautiful woman. Throw It In the Bag features Chinx Drugz, is a street track talking about when he came up it was like throwing things in bags. Marble Floor features Rick Ross, they talk about how great it is to live in luxury. Ocho Cinco features MGK, Los, Red Cafe and another appearance from Diddy, the topic matter is about haters and how it’s like to reap rewards from being first place. If I Die ends the album.
Overall, I really enjoyed this album. It did have A lot of features from Rick Ross and Diddy, and some of the filler tracks sprinkled in were weak, but this was made up by more than enough smash hits and good beats. I give this 4 out of 5 stars.
