Halloween is almost here, a holiday known for it’s spooky things and candy treats. For some people though the horror never ends, that’s what happens to people who have haunted houses. There are many stories about people and their haunted houses, so let’s look at some haunted houses that are in the U.S.
1. Winchester House-San Jose, CA
This no doubt one of the most famous haunted houses. Sarah Winchester, was so obsessed that her house was haunted that she kept building and building on the room, to appease the spirits. She was afraid that the dead were after her because of her husband’s family being the Winchesters, the manufacturing and marketing of the Winchester rifle.
Though to many there are no doubts that there are spirits roaming the place. There are many reports of people hearing footsteps, mysterious voices, apparitions even one of Sarah Winchester herself.
2. Amityville Horror House-Amityville Horror, NY
Even if there is some skepticism about if the house was really haunted or not, the story itself is chilling. And there really was a murder that was truly terrifying that happened in the house, that just adds another creepy aspect to the legend that surrounds Amityville Horror.
3. Whaley House-San Diego, CA
The Whaley House was built in 1857 and is reportedly one of the most haunted houses. According to the reports there is a spirit of a young girl that roams the place, a ghost of a thief who was clubbed to death likes to walk up and down the stairs, and the daughter of Thomas Whaley is haunting the place too. It’s not a house for those who have weak hearts!
4. Villisca Axe Murder House-Villisca, IA
One of the saddest stories about a house is the unsolved story about the axe murders that happened to Josiah B. Moore and his family. Also there were other victims that weren’t family members but friends.
Some believe that the ghosts of the victims still are roaming the house and others even have reported that a dark presence haunts the home, one theory is the presence is the ghost of the murderer.
5. George Stickney House-McHenry County, IL
George Stickney created the house and was big into spiritualism. Some say his wife and him were into because they have lost so many children out of 10, only 3 survived adulthood. Though in the 19th century spiritualism was all the rage and many loved doing seances in their homes.
The ghost reports that plague the place are objects moving around by themselves, apparitions possibly even of Stickney’s father-in-law, ghostly voices, unexplained footsteps, and other weird things that plagued the house. The house is now used by the police department and believe it or not, some even gave up their badges because of the ghosts.
So those are some reportedly haunted homes that are right here in the United States.
