For the past twenty years Dinah has lived in the shadow of her brothers killing the men of Shechem. Now she must fulfill her Grandfather Isaac’s dying wish to travel to Uz and marry Job’s son. On the day she arrives Job’s world comes crashing down and many believe she is to blame.
With nowhere to go Dinah stays to care for Job in his affliction. As each feels drawn to the other, will they find the healing they seek? Find out in Love Amid the Ashes by Mesu Andrews.
I loved this book! I had a feeling early on this would be a powerful book because of what I knew of the Biblical accounts of Dinah and Job’s stories and I was right! I know I will never look at either of their stories the same way again and indirectly Jacob and Esau, as well as Joseph.
Not only is this book well-written, but also well researched. At first I thought this Job and Dinah connection as well as several other plot points was completely fictional. Then I read Andrews’ Author’s Note and learned most of it was taken from Jewish documents on the life of Job. I found it all fascinating.
God has a purpose for everything is a major theme in this book. A lot of horrible things happen to Job and Dinah in this book, but God has a reason for all of them.
On the whole this is a powerful and fascinating book. I give it five out of five stars.
If there is a book you would like me to review please write it in the Comments.
