With casting roles for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie are expected to be offered after this Labor Day weekend, fans are still in the dark as to just who will be given these “official” film extensions. Although a variety of actors and actresses have had their bids put into the roles — while others have been snuffed out — one model has been confirmed not to be our Ana Steele: Cara Delevingne, Refinery29 reports this Aug. 29.
Although the model was rumored to be a “frontrunner” to the role, Cara Delevingne has since been confirmed by inside sources (as told by “The Sun”) that the lead role “was not offered to her.” Now while this means that Cara won’t be playing the love interest of the sexy Christian Grey, it doesn’t mean she’s out of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie completely. The well-known model and aspiring actress could still be a supporting member of the hotly anticipated film.
It also seemed that in his recent interview, “Fifty Shades of Grey” producer Dana Brunetti hinted that we fans will have our Christian Grey cast (or at least announced first), with Anastasia Steele coming close behind. The reason for this appears to be related to finding the right amount of chemistry between the lead roles, and that Christian — in many ways — is the most transformative and affecting role in the novel, which will translate well onto the silver screen.
Of course, it is wise to keep in mind that while fan favorites are still certainly in the running — including Christian Grey and Ana Steele contenders like Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill to Emilia Clarke and Alexis Bledel — it’s more likely that someone with the precise amount of acting chops and sexual chemistry will be selected. And that doesn’t count out even former stars who never gave an absolute “yes” or “no” to the role, including the likes of Garrett Hedlund and Stephen Amell.
For now, everything is up in the air, but we won’t have long to wait. The end of this Labor Day weekend will be very telling for “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans everywhere, in more ways than one.
We fans may have to be open, however, to not having our ideal casting actors in terms of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele play the roles, but the movie will likely be excellent, all the same, as long as we are open-minded. Things are slowly but surely coming together, one whip at a time.
