It’s been almost two weeks since Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced Charlie Hunnam’s exit from the role of Christian Grey in the movie adaption of E.L. James’ erotic best-seller “Fifty Shades of Grey”, but the topic continues to trend.
From major news outlets CNN, The Wall Street Journal and Variety Magazine to Huffington Post in the blogosphere, the world has gone Fifty Shades of Crazy. Not surprising however, as 7500 Grey fans were outraged enough to sign a petition expressing dissatisfaction with the original casting of Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson instead of Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel.
The supporters shouted at the top of their lungs like Republicans opposing Obamacare, using social media as their voice. When producer Dana Brunetti’s response didn’t satisfy them, they made an attempt at a production shut down by lobbying at change.org.
“There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.,”say Brunetti.
“So if your favorite wasn’t cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective.”
The media is a buzz about the recent casting announcement of Jamie Dornan as the new Christian Grey. While there hasn’t been any signs of a production coup by over zealous “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans, here’s a list of potential Dornan replacements in case of an uprising. Diverse in nature, this top five list of actors overlooked during the search for Christian Grey, may cause a little political unrest as well.
5. Makim Chmerkovskiy
Best known for his stellar performances as former ballroom dance professional on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”, Makim Chmerkovskiy is hot and sexy. His sensual moves alone qualifies him for the role of Christian Grey-not hard to imagine him taking control.
4. Gary Dourdan
Slightly older than the other contenders, Gary Dourdan with his light green eyes (grey green who really cares) would make Christian Grey look oh so good on the big screen in the film “Fifty Shades of Grey”. The epitome of dominance, his presence screams confident, domineering and sexy. Women all over the world would welcome him into their bedrooms.
Can’t get enough of of this dreamy eyed hunk, catch him on the ABC series “Mistresses” or watch reruns of “A Different World”, “Soul Food” and “CSI”.
3. Shemar Moore
Shemar, Shemar, Shemar…..This beautiful male specimen first made the ladies squirm as the sexy Malcolm Winters on the daytime drama The Young & Restless. No stranger to the small or big screen, Shemar Moore has starred in “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman”, “The Brothers” and can be seen weekly as Derek Morgan on the crime drama “Criminal Minds” on CBS.
2. Boris Kodjoe
He’s attractive, very attractive. He’s tall. He’s well dressed. He’s sexy. He’s beautiful. He’s multi-lingual. He’s cultured. The list of positive characteristics extends beyond perpetuity.
Though never seen in a aggressive domineering role, Boris Kodjoe exudes a strong sexual confidence that could potentially render women powerless in the bedroom. Boris Kodjoe meet Christian Grey, your alter ego.
Sad you won’t see him bring the character to life? Watch him weekly on BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood”.
1. Michael Ealy
Blue eyed bombshell (oh wait can a man be referred to as a bombshell?) Michael Ealy is attractive, well dressed and looks deliciously good in a suit. Ask Halle Berry. She knows how fine he is as the two were a hot item back in 2004.
Though a cute wholesome couple, Ealy has a dark side as seen in Tyler Perry’s film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s play “For Colored Girls”. His portrayal of Beau Willie, the alcoholic father who dropped his children to their death from his apartment window, proves him capable of taping into the emotions needed to bring the sado masochistic Christian Grey to life in E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey”. Therefore Michael Ealy is the top actor overlooked during the search for Christian Grey.
