October has proved to be one of my busiest months thus far. Dozens of fashion events and collaborations from week to week have filled every hour of my calendar but I was savvy enough to make time to be a part of a most beneficial event. Earlier this month, I was sent a personal invite from EIC, Janice Susan Wallace of Façon Magazine to attend a ‘Fashion & Style’ networking happy hour at Avery’s Bar & Lounge. Façon Magazine is the voice of emerging fashion. This online magazine features the most prominent in style, design, and the creative arts from around the world. The online magazine edition is produced quarterly and the companion blog features what’s new in fashion trends, art, style features, and interviews. During the event I had the opportunity to chat briefly with Janice who gave some insight on the magazine, its history, and her vision moving forward. She commended her team for doing such a wonderful job ensuring that the magazine and blog remained notable and recognized.
Yany Aibangbee of Yany Bang Clothing (YBC) was the featured designer for this event. Born as Aiyanyo Aibangbee, Yany Bang is a Howard University graduate and has been designing for seven years. Yany Bang Clothing is a luxury clothing line for men and women who express themselves in the lifestyle they themselves believe in. The main concept designs; which came from playing cards incorporate the positive aspects of these symbols and transfer the “energy” into what you wear. For example, Hearts equate to Love, Joy, and Happiness. Spades equate to Hope, Pleasant Events, and Activities. Diamonds equate to Money, Risk, and Excitement and Clubs equate to Work, Effort, and Achievements. YBC is about expressing yourself and your character. The design itself originated from the concept that men and women play “games” …some games lead to fun, relationships, heartbreak, some love, and some just lead to an experience.
The event included a host of fabulously stylish guests and fashion professionals. I had the opportunity to mix and mingle with a few impressive business owners, one being Houston native Kimberly Harris the co-owner of local consignment boutique Catch 22. Her shop offers several services in addition to their designer consignment option; styling, personal shopping, as well as closet clean out and organization. What other retail store offers everything you could possibly need and want in one place to make your shopping experience so effortless and accommodating? I also shared a great conversation with communications guru Paula Moreno, the Chief Strategist of Alter Ego Studio. Her agency provides an array of multimedia services for you and/ or your business and has a very impressive portfolio to boast their vigorous work.
In all, Façon Magazine did an outstanding job with this event and I am certainly looking forward to being in attendance and making more great connections in the future.
