VARNA, Bulgaria – Terry Crews shares the frightening story of Jason Statham’s near death experience during a stunt shoot for ‘Expendables 3’, and how Statham is “truly one bad, bad, dude.”
In a recent interview with Jay Leno, on NBC’s the Tonight Show, Terry Crews, one of the incredible actors in the action-packed star line up of Sylvester Stallone’s third installment of the “Expendables” franchise shares how his co-star nearly ended up at the bottom of the Bulgarian Black Sea.
According to Terry Crews, Statham was driving a truck along the edge of the Black Sea, and was supposed to stop to shoot an action scene, but something went wrong and the truck didn’t stop. To everyone’s horror the truck crashes over the edge and sinks into the Black Sea;
“We’re in Varna in Bulgaria on the edge of the Black Sea. He [Statham] is literally supposed to stop the truck, we get out of the back and shoot this scene,” Crews shares, “Well the truck doesn’t stop. The truck goes over the dock, into the Black Sea with Jason Statham driving!” [Source: NBCLateNightShow/YouTube]
Now able to jokingly share the story with a mix of concern and laughs from Jay Leno and the audience Terry Crews enthusiastically tells how the crew was freaking out at what they just witnessed, before Statham breaks out of the vehicle, swims back to the surface rescuing himself without any help;
“I’m in a heap on the ground and Jason is down in the water, in the truck! And we’re all freaking out. Then he [Statham] literally breaks out and swims to the top and the truck is gone, it sank to the bottom!”
Terry Crews says that Statham, emerging from the Black Sea, dried his clothes and was ready to keep shooting. Then shares a fact that Statham fans have always known;
“Let me tell you something—Jason Statham is a truly bad, bad dude! Bad, that’s my boy!”
Statham, who is best known for his work in the ‘Transporter’ trilogy, ‘Crank’ 2006 and ‘Crank: High Voltage’ 2009, ‘Safe’ 2012, and ‘Parker’ 2013, is one of those actors that prefer to do his own stunts. During the opening of Statham’s 2012 action film ‘Safe’ he was asked about getting injured during shoots, to which Statham laughs it off saying,
“Everyone gets a little knock and bruise. They’re just par for the course. We’re making actions film. Mistakes happen. We try to avoid it but injuries happen.” Statham says.
To revisit the kind of guy Statham really is, Terry Crews says it best, he’s “truly one bad, bad, dude.”
