Eternity is written on your heart …
‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end’ – Ecclesiastes 3:11 (ESV)
That’s why you love fascinating stories and thrilling adventures, they remind you that life is more than the things you see, and that you are more than you have dared to believe.
Truly, you were made for God, designed to love Him and be loved by Him. The magnificence of God’s person is your birthright and inheritance. You exist to be fascinated by His beauty and allured by His love … His presence is the environment you were created for.
Yet, most of us live disconnected from this heavenly atmosphere.
We navigate through life believing lies that we were told are true, feeling roller-coaster emotions that reflect those lies, and overheating our minds with the nervous cares of this world.
As if this weren’t enough, an ocean of distractions threatens our sanity.
Multitudes of voices call for our attention: “Come here and find life!”, “Follow me!”, “Buy this; it will cure your pain”.
Both, the media and savvy marketers have identified our thirst. They understand our emotional brain and how to intelligently seduce our longings for profit (they spend endless hours and loads of money studying how to capture our attention).
Ironically, they are not alone in their pursuit. Although for much different reasons, the God of heaven and the prince of darkness are after the same thing: your burning heart.
Make no mistake; your affections will burn for something or someone, your heart is not neutral. You must experience life at any cost, and you will. Because you carry powerful passions within … mighty rivers of longing that will not relent in their search for an outlet.
Yes, you’re dealing with unfathomable soul affections and the charm of many lovers. It’s a subtle harassment. And if you’re not careful, you can become a flute that anyone can play.
Few people understand that, every input needs an output. This is why—like the Samaritan woman from John 4 in the Bible—we tend to quench our thirst with false lovers, switching from one fountain to the next.
But it never works, and as the famous rock star would say: We still haven’t found what we’re looking for.
