Today, the Department of Justice is suing North Carolina over their Voter ID requirements, the very same requirements needed to enroll in Obamacare.
Charlie Savage of The New York Times reported today that
“Black voters in North Carolina are disproportionately likely to lack identification issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, according to state data.”
Yet, in order to enroll in Obamacare, citizens are required to provide government-issued ID, along with tax returns, as reported by the Examiner.
Will President Obama be sued by the Department of Justice?
In addition to suing the state over Voter ID laws, the lawsuit will also seek to
“reimpose a requirement [struck down from the Supreme Court] that North Carolina obtain ‘preclearance’ from the federal government before making changes to its election rules.”
Attorney General Eric Holder said,
“We will not allow the Supreme Court’s recent decision to be interpreted as open season for states to pursue measures that suppress voting rights.”
In the case of Obamacare, however, the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize the unpopular legislation (as long as the fee for not enrolling was considered as a “tax”) was embraced by Democrats and often used to shut down debate.
Al Gore, for example, angrily denounced Obamacare opponents for not accepting that the behemoth legislation was found to be constitutional by the Supreme Court, as reported by the Examiner.
He said that Republicans were acting as “political terrorists” by attempting to stop Obamacare. He continued,
“…but it did pass, it was upheld by the Supreme Court, it is the law of the land, you didn’t succeed in the Constitutional process in which this was considered and now you not only want to threaten to shut down the government but to blow up the world economy unless we go back and undo what we did according to the process of our democracy? How dare you. How dare you.'” [added emphasis]
It should be noted that in the last week, Congress passed not one, but two budgets that would indeed, fund the government. The most recent budget was struck down by the Senate today, as reported by Fox News.
The contradictory message seems to be that Supreme Court rulings are only valid if they support what Democrats want, and requiring government-issued identification is only racist if it is for voting.
