Taylor Swift has made as much news for which new boyfriend she is dating as she has for her music. Regardless of how many songs she has playing on the radio simultaneously, whom Taylor Swift is in love with seems to take on a life of its own apart from her career.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift spoke about her relationships, saying that when she writes about an intense feeling that someone else has felt too, it bonds people together. She attributes fans continually coming out to hear her sing, to that connection. In describing those intense feelings, she mentioned feeling misunderstood by the person who is supposed to know you better than anyone else. She also said, “I am getting to a point where the only love worth being in is the love worth singing about. And kind of mad love.”
While you may have great respect for Taylor Swift as an artist and what she has accomplished at such a young age, anyone who is a bit more “seasoned” in a relationship may question her line of thinking about her ex-boyfriends. First of all, can a guy you’ve dated for two to four months really be the person who “is supposed to know you better than anyone else”? Furthermore, since it’s quite obvious that she has written more than one song about an ex-boyfriend, is she then claiming to have been in love with those exes after just a few short months?
Taylor Swift’s statements can cause quite a dilemma for parents of young girls. On the one hand, Taylor Swift is a smart businesswoman, passionate about her craft, works long hours and gives her all when it comes to creativity and devotion to fans, and has generally worked very hard to earn the kind of life she is now enjoying. However, the misconceptions about what it takes to maintain and enjoy a loving relationship over the decades of one’s lifetime, could raise a red flag for parents who want their daughters to be more discerning about what love is, and what love isn’t.

According to Billboard.com, Taylor Swift dated Joe Jonas for approximately four months in 2008, from July through October. Soon after their breakup, Joe Jonas began dating Camilla Belle, but that relationship lasted less than one year as well.
In 2009, all the buzz was whether a Taylor and Taylor match was meant to be. Taylor Swift dated The Twilight Saga’s Taylor Lautner from August through December of that year. There has been much speculation that Taylor Swift’s “Back to December” was written about Taylor Lautner due to the timing of the breakup and the appearance, in the video, of a key necklace that Taylor Lautner wore.
Whether Taylor Swift mourned the breakup from Taylor Lautner for long, no one could tell because by later in December of 2009, she was already seeing John Mayer. The relationship, which lasted through February 2010, has since been highly publicized due to her song “Dear John,” and tension between the two being reported since the breakup.
From October 2010 through January 2011, Taylor Swift dated actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Their brief, but intense romance even earned them a cover story on US Weekly magazine.
Though the couple never admitted to a romance, Taylor Swift was spotted with Zac Efron for about a month in early 2012. The pair met while performing their voice parts for the 2012 movie “The Lorax.”
In July of 2012, Taylor Swift’s fans thought she might have finally found “the one” when she started dating Conor Kennedy, grandson of the late Bobby Kennedy. Taylor Swift purchased a home near the Kennedy family’s vacation home, sparking rumors that Taylor Swift had moved there to be closer to her new beau. Unfortunately, the relationship had ended by October of 2012.
After her too-good-to-be-true romance with Conor Kennedy ended, Taylor Swift moved on to Harry Styles, member of the band One Direction. Though there may have been feelings between them for quite some time, the relationship, as known the public, only lasted one month. That one month must have been quite emotionally charged, however, as Taylor Swift’s hit song “I Knew You Were Trouble” was written about the boy bander.
