With everything that comes with preparing a wedding one of the last things that may be on your mind is saving the environment. You may not realize it but there is a lot of paper and paper products that are sent in a wedding and is not recycled. Think about your invitations for example. Not only are you paying for expensive paper and vellum, more often then not once the wedding is over people just discard these and they just become waste. Wouldn’t it be better to have a way to invite your family and friends to your wedding without wasting a lot and giving back to the environment?
Actually there is. Did you know that you can actually send invitations that are plantable? By plantable I mean that once the invitation is received your guests can then take the invitation, plant it in soil, water it and then watch it turn it herbs or wildflowers. There are several companies that offer these eco friendly invitations like Botanical Paperworks, Bloomin, Invitation Twist and Green Field Paper Company.
At Botanical Paperworks, you have three different options when it comes to choosing your invitations. You can either choose a ready made design, upload your own design and then the invitations are sent to you or you can order the seed laced paper and create your own at home. They also offer plantable envelopes for their invitations so your guests actually get two chances to save the environment.
With Bloomin, your invitations are made on biodegradable paper that is 100% post industrial recycled and is dyed with all natural vegetable based pigments. With over 20 different invitation designs to choose from Bloomin also offers for weddings ‘growfetti’ which can be used to throw at the happy couple instead of bubbles or regular confetti.
Over at Invitation Twist, the plantable seed embedded paper they use for their invitations comes with perennial as well as annual flowers. Once your guests are done with their invitations, they simply soak the invitation in water and then plant under a thin layer of soil for the flowers to bloom. Not only do they offer wedding invitations but they also do save the date cards, reply cards and thank you cards too.
Lastly, Green Field Paper Company offers not only plantable invitations but also plantable favor boxes, handmade specialty paper and their own exclusive Hemp Heritage paper. Their cards are printed with soy inks and use earth pigments to color their papers into different colors. Here too you can order blank invitations to customize in your own home.
Prices and products vary with each company but if you’re wanting to do something different while at the same time being more eco friendly with your wedding these companies are definitely worth checking out.
