There are so many nice things about this episode. First off, the unsub isn’t shown to the audience. Well, it’s more like we don’t know that the man we’ve been following around for a good bit of the episode is the unsub. This seems like a twist that should have been easy to spot, but it wasn’t, at least for me. During the episode, there are moments where it is really boring to watch these two people who believe they are being targeted run around. It’s not exciting, and there isn’t an instant connection to either one of them. In fact, there isn’t even a sense that they are romantically involved. When the twist is revealed that this is all in his mind, then the shock of the twist helps excuse some of the boring scenes. It would have been better if there was more of a connection to him and the target Maya. What did you think of the unsub twist?
This episode feels like an old episode of “Criminal Minds,” which is a very good thing. It’s nice focusing on watching the team solve things, instead of just following around the unsub and waiting for the team to catch up. Plus, this format of episode keeps the viewers in the dark. Typically, we know more than the team does, but in this episode, we are trying to solve the case with the team. Did you love seeing a more traditional episode?
There is one slight thing that is annoying. Something is going on with JJ. Things don’t seem to be good with Will. She is shown talking to him at the beginning of the episode, and then Reid senses that there is something wrong, but she doesn’t tell him anything. Honestly, there is this expectation that there will be a scene at the end on the plane, where Reid and JJ talk some more. Unfortunately, this scene isn’t there, and so there still isn’t an answer to what’s going on with JJ. It would have been great to at least have Reid bring it up again, even if JJ shoots him down. She could have still given a sliver more of information. The writers are most likely building this up to be a big personal storyline for her. What are your thoughts on what’s bothering JJ?
