The coveted pig, “The Floyd of Rosedale” is up for grabs on Saturday when the Hawkeyes head to Minnesota to face off against the Golden Gophers.
The Golden Gophers are quietly putting together an undefeated season thus far as the Gophers are sitting at 4-0 on the year. Sure, the Gophers haven’t played the toughest of schedules thus far, but wins are wins and right now Minny just keeps winning. The Gophers had a solid win last weekend, defeating the San Jose State Spartans in Minnesota 43-24. The Gophers jumped out to an early first quarter lead, but the Spartans came back and at the break the Gophers were up just 20-17. The second half however was all Minnesota as the Gophers came out firing with ten unanswered points in the third quarter, cruising to the easy win. Minnesota was actually outgained in this one, but three Spartan turnovers killed San Jose’s chances at the win. Minnesota put up 424 yards of offense on the day, led by freshman quarterback Mitch Leidner. Leidner wasn’t effective through the air, completing just 5/12 for 71 yards, but Leidner led the Gophers on the ground, racking up 151 yards on the day and four scores on just 24 carries.
