Attention all local, New Orleans-area filmmakers. Need an outlet for your filmmaking fix until the next New Orleans Film Festival, 48 Hour Film Project, or Timecode:NOLA FF?
Chalmette Movies, longtime promoters of independent and locally-focused cinema, is hosting a slightly unusual filmmaking contest and film festival that should hit very close to home for most of its patrons.
The theme is “The Judge Seeber Bridge” (or the Claiborne Bridge, as local calls it). The only requirements for submissions are: a total running time of 3-5 minutes, all films must be submitted on regular DVD format only (no Blu-Rays please), but most importantly, the films need to best show off the aggravation of the bridge being out for the last two-plus months as the anticipated completion date continually gets pushed back.
And the best news is: there is no entry fee is required and participants do not even need to live in any particular parish. The winner, which will be announced on Thanksgiving Day, will win a free pass to the Chalmette Movies for six months in addition to having their movie posted on the theater’s website.
All entries should be mailed (or dropped off) to the Chalmette Movies theater by the close of business on Sunday, November 17. The theater’s mailing address is:
Chalmette Movies – 8700 West Judge Perez Drive, Suite D – Chalmette, LA 70043
With only about three weeks until the due date, filmmakers need to get rolling immediately. So gather up all those frustrations with the bridge and put them to good use. Good luck!
Visit the theater’s website for more information, directions, showtimes, and ticket prices.
