For all you gamers out there that might be disappointed by the announcement of some of the next generations consoles limitations (i.e. lack of backwards compatibility, 720p games, inability to play music CD’s/mp3’s etc.) or just rather not make the choice between the upcoming Xbox One or Playstation 4, there is an alternative – and it’s a pretty good one. Not only can you replace next gen graphics with your own built PC for the equal price of the consoles themselves, but have it look better, run better, and make it fully upgradeable/moddable to boot.
With the steady rise of gaming on the ever versatile PC, not to mention the rise of the Steam platform reaching over 65 million active users – eclipsing Xbox Live users – now is a good a time as ever to join (or at very least, try) the PC gaming world if you haven’t yet. If you’ve never built a computer before, now’s a good time as ever.
Right now, we’re fully aware of the upcoming next gen consoles specifications. While they are both XBox One and PS4 are fairly equal with the PS4 having a slight edge, there specs show that the hardware on each can easily be matched by mid to higher ranged PC parts. Below lists PS4’s official parts list –
Playstation 4 Specifications Reference
8-Core Jaguar CPU
1.84 TFLOPS GPU. (HD7870 Equivalent)
For this build, I’ve taken the liberty of matching the specs to make it identical as possible. In some cases, some parts exceeded the next gen console specifications themselves. The list below complies a complete list of parts needed to build as well as the sites with promo codes.

Grand total for all parts is $503.92 for a complete unrestricted media machine that will run just about every game on the market today, including future and next gen games out now like Battlefield 4, at full 1080p Max settings with better FPS than any console. As always, you could go even cheaper on some parts like blu ray etc., but for the sake of matching next gen consoles, this is about as close as it gets.
