Buffalo Grove Days is running on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-30-31 and Sept. 1-2, 2013, in Buffalo Grove in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, Ill.
Buffalo Grove Days features a variety of activities and family oriented entertainment, including carnival rides, live music, food, beer, the Buffalo Grove Days Parade, Fireworks, arts and crafts, kids crafts, walking entertainers and more. The festival opens with the carnival on Thurs. night.. The rest of the attractions open on Fri. night and run Sat. and Sun.. Labor Day Mon. offers a more limited schedule than over the weekend.
Carnival rides are a family favorite at the festival. The carnival opens on Thurs., Aug. 29 and runs through Mon., Sept. 2. Carnival hours are: Thurs. 6-10 p.m., Fri. 6-11 p.m., Sat. & Sun. noon-11 p.m and Mon. 12:30-6:30 p.m.. The Carnival Wristbands are $23 per day and offer unlimited rides during specified hours. Carnival Wristband hours are: Thurs. 6-10 p.m., Sat. noon – 5 p.m. and Mon. 12:30-6:30 p.m.
The Buffalo Grove Days Parade is held on Sun., starting at 1 p.m.. The parade route starts at Bernard Drive & Indian Hill and travels east on Bernard Drive to Raupp Boulevard, turning north to St. Mary’s Parkway. A food drive will be held to benefit the local food pantries. Bring non-perishable food items and sundries to donate to the drive.
The fireworks show is on Sun. night, starting 9:15 p.m. Fireworks are visible from the Main Stage, Rotary Village Green, Willow Stream Park, and the BG Golf Course.
The Arts & Crafts Fair is in front of the Village Hall on Sat., Sun. and Mon..The Business Fair will also be on Sat., Sun. and Mon..
The BG Days Barbecue Challenge is being held on Sat. Entries will be judged and prizes awarded. See the BG Days website for details.
he Buffalo Grove Rotary hosts their 2nd Annual Rubber Duck Race on Mon., (1:30 p.m._ at Raupp Bridge. Purchase a rubber duck from the website or buy one in person. Proceeds go to charity.
A great selection of food is offered by local restaurants in the food tent. Some of the foods available include pizza, BBQ, ribs, Thai food, Sushi, Mexican food, Chinese food, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and more.
The Beer Garden offers beverages and a lineup of family and musical entertainment. Entertainment at the Beer Tent includes Andrew Blendermann, Soul Chasers, Blue Moondogs, Whitey O’Day, Pipe Dreams, Jose Cornier, Accoustic Generation, Industrial Drive, Fore Lease, and Mystriss.
The festival features live music on two stages, the Main Stage and in the Beer Garden. American Idol finalist Haley Reinhart, a Wheeling native, sings on the Main Stage on Sat. night. See pictures of Haley Reinhart performing at Arlington Park at Haley Reinhart homecoming.
Following is the weekend lineup on the Main Stage:
- Fri.: Phil Jacobsen (7:15-8 p.m.) and 16 Candles (8:30-10:30 p.m.).
- Sat.: BG Park District (1:30-2:30 p.m.), Reverie Dance Companies (1:30-2:30 p.m.), Rumble Tone Blues Band (7:30-8:30 p.m.) and American Idol finalist Haley Reinhart (9-10:30 p.m.).
- Sun.: American English Beatles tribute band (7:30-9:15 p.m.).
There is no parking available at the festival site, but there is shuttle service from designated parking lots in the area. Parking lots include: Willow Stream Park, Buffalo Grove Golf Center, Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, Mike Rylko Community Park, Buffalo Grove Town Center (shuttle stops at north end ONLY), Plaza at Buffalo Grove, Buffalo Grove High School south parking lot, Federal Express Building and PNC Bank.
