Brooke Burke-Charvet has been gearing up for the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” However, she is not just a well-known celebrity, but she is also mom to four awesome kids, a smart businesswoman, and she has taken on some very worthwhile projects. Her latest one is in collaboration with Children’s Claritin and nonprofit KaBOOM! to help encourage kids to work together using their imaginations through the use of playground equipment. The Lansing TV Examiner had a chance to chat with Brooke by email on Aug. 28 to ask about this project and all of the other things happening in her busy life.
First off, how has your health been since your cancer surgery last year?
Today I feel great and I’m as healthy as ever! I feel blessed to have received an early diagnosis and my surgery went very well. I just had my six month check-up – I’m Cancer free and my health is perfect!
What tips would you give to someone that is trying their best to get healthy and/or to lose weight?
I try to never focus on losing weight, but rather on being my healthiest self. I really believe in smart, frequent meals, and designing a healthy lifestyle that’s something you can maintain. I don’t believe in quick fixes or fad diets, but in regular exercise and designing a delicious eating plan you and your family can enjoy.
How did you get involved with Children’s Claritin and the KaBOOM! program? It sounds like such a worthwhile project.
I like to work with groups that are helping others. That’s why I’m working with Children’s Claritin to help spread the word to parents across America that every vote counts in their effort with KaBOOM! to bring play to schools in need. You can just go to the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/claritin) and vote. The four schools with the most votes will each receive Imagination Playground equipment – these mobile play sets comprised of oversized, foam blocks create an accessible, creative place for kids to play.
What other projects, if any, have you been working on?
I’m very excited to be designing a fitness active line; it’s been a long-time dream of mine. I’ve spent most of my summer designing and getting ready for the launch!
Your kids are getting so big! How is it at your house during ‘back to school’ time? Are you as organized as you seem to be?
Back to school is the most chaotic time I know. I’m very busy getting ready for my youngest to start kindergarten, preparing my 13 year old to start the eighth grade and I have two more angels in between, so lots of shopping, lots of school supplies. I like to do a lot of it online. I just published a video with some of my back to school tips, but I think it’s manic for every mom. My key to success is to stay very organized.
Of course, I have to ask about the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” How do you feel about the changes being made this year?
I understand the changes and I’m hopeful it’ll give the brand longevity. I’m excited to learn who will be joining us for the new cast, which we’ll announce Sept. 4, live on “Good Morning America.” I think Monday nights will be an action packed evening with performances, elimination and entertainment.
Do you think it will change the whole dynamic of the show since viewers are so used to dancing on Monday and the results show on Tuesday?
Moving to Monday nights was meant to change the dynamic of the show and that’s what’s exciting. I like change; I’m looking forward to it!
I have heard you say recently that you and Tom do not yet know who will be the celebrity dancers this season. When do they tell you both, and the rest of the cast, who will be dancing?
I just read on Twitter that Tom already knows, so I’m about to call him up to harass him! LOL We will be making a live announcement on “GMA” on Sept. 4.
Lastly, do you have your dress picked out yet for the season premiere of “DWTS?”
Not yet, but it’s one of my favorite parts of the show. I love dressing up like a princess! I’ve got 12 head to toe, red carpet ball room looks to create, and I’ll start doing fittings for that next week!
Be sure to watch the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” on Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
Also, be sure to head on over to Claritin’s official Facebook page to vote for the top four schools to receive Imagination Playground equipment.
