The following is a list of the biggest upsets that occurred in the NFL in Week 4, which ended on September 30, 2013. For the first time in the 2013 NFL season there were a lot of upsets this week. The NFL had been pretty predictable during the first three weeks, but no less than six teams won this week as underdogs.
Biggest upsets in the NFL in Week 4 of the 2013 season
- Cleveland Browns upset Cincinnati Bengals as a 4 point underdog
The Cleveland Browns upset the Cincinnati Bengals at home by a score of 17-6 as a four point underdog. Browns QB Brian Hoyer threw two touchdowns as he led Cleveland to its second consecutive win.
- Buffalo Bills upset the Baltimore Ravens as a 3 point underdog
The Buffalo Bills upset the Baltimore Ravens at home by a score of 23-20 as a three point underdog. The Bills were greatly aided in the upset by Baltimore QB Joe Flacco’s five interceptions. The defending Super Bowl champs are now 2-2 on the season.
- Minnesota Vikings upset Pittsburgh Steelers as a 3 point underdog
In a game played at Wembley Stadium in London, England, the Minnesota Vikings upset the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 34-27 as a three point underdog. Adrian Peterson ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Matt Cassell filled in for the injured Christian Ponder by throwing two TDs for the Vikings.
- Arizona Cardinals upset Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a 2.5 point underdog
The Arizona Cardinals upset the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in Week 5 by a score of 13-10 as a 2.5 point underdog. Tampa Bay led this game by a score of 10-0 going into the fourth quarter, but their rookie QB Mike Glennon threw two late interceptions to Patrick Peterson, which fueled the Cardinals scoring 13 fourth quarter points to win the game.
Tampa Bay is now 0-4, and you have to wonder if head coach Greg Schiano is going to make it through the season without getting fired. I’ve been a Rutgers fan for a long time, and Greg Schiano was never a great coach at Rutgers, he was a very good recruiter. That doesn’t work in the NFL.
- San Diego Chargers upset Dallas Cowboys as a 2 point underdog
The San Diego Chargers upset the Dallas Cowboys at home by a score of 30-21 as a two point underdog. Phillip Rivers threw for 401 yards and three touchdowns, while Antonio Gates had 10 catches for 136 yards, including a 56 yard TD catch, to fuel the upset win for the Chargers.
- New England Patriots upset Atlanta Falcons as a 2 point underdog
The New England Patriots upset the Atlanta Falcons on the road by a score of 30-23 as a two point underdog. Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos has been great so far this season in the NFL, but what Tom Brady is doing in New England has been even more impressive than what Manning is doing.
That’s because Tom Brady is winning games throwing the ball to Julian Edelman and a bunch of rookie receivers like Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boyce and Aaron Dobson. Peyton Manning has arguably the best receivers in football with Wes Welker, Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, and Julius Thomas. Both the Patriots and Broncos are 4-0 this season.
