It’s the best day of Scott’s, (Justin Long), and Kristin’s, (Jess Weixler), lives. It’s their wedding day, a lot of kissing, a lot of dancing and a lot of drinking.
Scott’s best man, Lumpy, (Tyler Labine), took full advantage of the drinking. Lumpy drinks so much that Scott tells him that it’s time for Lumpy to turn in. Complaining all the way, Lumpy stumbles off to his room. When he arrives, he passes out.
Coming to, he falls and smacks his head. Drunk, and now injured, Lumpy goes for a walk in the desert. Before Lumpy gets too far, he falls down and dies on a cactus.
Obviously, Lumpy’s death ruined the wedding and even worse, the honeymoon.
Scott has spent a huge amount of money on the wedding. Scott’s boss has not been paying him , so money is tight. Lumpy had lent him $2K towards the wedding. Scott thought that Kristin’s dress cost $2K, it actually cost her $3K.
The funeral parlor had to send Lumpy’s body back home via some cheap delivery service.
The first part of the film is a bit disjointed. There is a teenage girl trying to call someone that doesn’t answer the phone. Two men are shown in bed, one gets up and gets dressed and he turns out to be a priest.
The girl, the priest and Lumpy are all connected.
Soon Scott and Kristin are also connected. Scott goes through Lumpy’s phone and a person named Ramsey, (the teenager) is saved in his phone page.. They try to call, but the phone is disconnected. They go to visit Ramsey, to tell her what has happened. It is from this point that secrets start coming to light.
What starts out to be a rather dark comedy turns, in the end, to be a sweet movie that is so much better than your normal dark rom-com.
The acting is excellent all around.
