It’s the 2013 haunt season, and once again I submitted myself to Scream Cam at HowlOScream in Busch Gardens Tampa for a tour through one of the new haunted houses. If you’d like to see and hear my reactions (and I warn you, there’s lots of screaming), jump to this article for the full video.
So what exactly goes on behind the scenes at Scream Cam? If you’d like a sneak peek, check out the list accompanying this article. It’s a lot of fun to get an early peek inside one of the HowlOScream haunted houses, but a little embarrassing to know that your every reaction is being caught on camera. It always whets my appetite for the event, which runs Thursday through Sunday from now until October 26.
One of the most exciting things at the event this year is the debut of the all-new The Experiment extra cost haunted house. It replaces Alone and take the concept to the next level with a ramped-up level of interactivity. If you’d like to hear about it, as well as the other new houses for 2013, jump to this article for a video interview with Scott Swenson.

Scream Cam begins with arriving at Busch Gardens Tampa during the day, when most of the guests don’t suspect that the terror has already begun. It’s held on the day before HowlOScream officially opens.
Scott Swenson is always on hand at Scream Cam to set the stage. As you can tell, I look a little apprehensive already as Death Water Bayou looms in the background.
When you do Scream Cam, you wear a camera rig that records your face and pick up your voice, including all the screams and wimpers. You get suited up in the rig right before you enter the haunted house.
All Ready to Go
I was anxious to challenge Death Water Bayou once I was all strapped in the rig. How can you not be excited about doing your first HowlOScream haunted house of the year?
Ready to Enter
There’s a little interview with Scott Swenson right before you go in. As you can tell, he’s very enthusiastic about HowlOScream and the new haunted houses this year. Hard to believe it’s the haunt season already.
Inside the House
As I stumble my way through the darkness and try to avoid the Voodoo Queen and her minions, everyone outside can see and hear me courtesy of video monitors. I’m sure they were laughing at my terror and confusion.
Made It…Or Did I?
Well, I survived Scream Cam for another year…or did I? As you can tell, you’re not completely safe even when you stumble out the door. The 13 might just be lurking and waiting for a chance to attack.
My Voodoo Doll
In honor of making it through Death Water Bayou and escaping the Voodoo Queen’s clutches, she gave me back my voodoo doll so she couldn’t torture me anymore.
