This year’s Bask-It-Style event, the celebrity gifting event during TIFF, opens its door with a media day on Wednesday September 4. Media from Toronto will have the opportunity to sample the Bask-It-Style gifting – to indulge in delicious food and select drinks, to try on beauty and fashion treats, to spend some time in the Reading Room with authors and publishers, and much more.
The exclusive media preview experience
The penthouse will be staged by Chique and Unique Home Staging with a rustic luxe theme that will frame the breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Rustic luxe is about pairing opposites from once considered rustic (i.e. reclaimed woods or ironworks) and pairing them with luxury items (i.e. extravagant fabrics or gleaming crystals). The suite will showcase the juxtaposition of opposing natural items. Some of the key pieces featured include: a reclaimed six-panel solid oak door from the 1800s which will be turned into artwork combined with sleek acrylic ghost chairs and a large lavish custom area rug artwork from Jonathan Adler’s collection.
Food and drink lovers, get ready to indulge
Media guests who fancy themselves culinary experts or wine connoisseurs will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from All But Gluten, Louianna and Wolf Blass. All But Gluten snacks will be showcased while you’ll learn about Louianna’s newest olive and sample scrumptious canapés. And, no party is complete without a look at what’s hot and new. Wolf Blass will be offering wine tasting from three of its wines in their cool blends – Hot Trends activation room. Living up to its reputation as an innovator and trendsetter, Wolf Blass has partnered with Canadian-born, globally renowned “trend hunter”, Jeremy Gutsche. He is the genius behind the #1 largest, most popular trend spotting website, for a behind the scenes peak at what’s hot and trending in the world of wine today. After visiting this room you’ll be ready to host a fall dinner party.
Beauty junkies meet fashion addicts
For media who live for fashion and beauty, Mary Kay will be showcasing its limited edition Fairytales and Fantasy collection while having a make up artist on-site to do fall trend consultations. Conair will be showcasing its latest device – Curl Secret, with hairstyling on-site. Kiss and Broadway Nails will be offering nail appointments. Guests can take their pick of current styles from imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails and Kiss Nail Dress for on-site application before taking additional designs home in their gift bags. Killigrew Fashions will walk you through men’s fall fashion with a variety of its comfort meets luxury line of 100% Peruvian pima cotton which are soft, silky and durable. You’ll leave this room primped and ready to hit the town.
Reading room: books, books and more books
“Back by popular demand is the reading room”, says Jessica Glover, GLO Communications. “Authors, publishers and media will get a chance to mingle, and this year we will be showcasing two authors whose books have a special connection to TIFF”. The Reading Room will be a must see for book lovers. Media will be able to meet authors Peggy Kotsopoulos (Kitchen Cures), Craig Davidson (Cataract City), Adrienne Kress (Outcast) and Joyce Maynard (After Her) as they sign their latest books. Also, media will find out what it takes to go from words on a page to having a critically acclaimed book in bookstores to getting your book turned into a film. As well, representatives from DK Publishing will be on-site to showcase their fall 2013 season books.
Music, music, music. Media will be treated to a Canadian online music showcase with a special playlist by Girth Music. Take a tour of Canadian music themed by emotion and find out if you have an ear for the next music sensation. You’ll leave knowing more about Canadian independent artists and with a Bask-It-Style custom playlist.
Bask-It-Style gives back
As always, Bask-It-Style is giving back. Bask-It-Style has partnered with two charitable organizations, Hope4Help and F*CK Cancer. Bask-It-Style will be donating proceeds to feed 1000 kids that are a part of a school with Hope4Help. Come learn about the school, the founding partners and how the school is changing one child’s life at a time, in Africa. Also, Bask-it-Style is partnering with F*CK Cancer to help bring awareness to their events which are now happening internationally. F*CK Cancer is on a mission to save lives by spreading one simple message: 90% of cancer is curable in stage one! Money raised from the sales of t-shirts goes towards funding research at various cancer initiatives throughout North America. Each colored shirt represents a different cancer ribbon and the shirts are also used as tickets to gain entrance into F*CK Cancer events.
