Ayla Reynolds case: Mother reveals evidence in missing toddler case

by vent wing

Maine toddler Ayla Reynolds vanished almost two years ago, and now her mother, Trista Reynolds, has come forward out of frustration to reveal previously secret evidence, according to a Sept. 14, 2013, CNN report.

She told the major news media outlet’s affiliate WCSH that authorities have shown her photo evidence of Ayla’s blood and saliva allegedly found on the girl’s father’s shoes, and on the interior of his vehicle, according to her stepgrandfather Jeff Hanson.

Reynolds noted that some of the blood was mixed with saliva, which may indicate Ayla had internal injuries.

She also said she was shown photos of blood found in Ayla’s grandmother’s basement where the girl was staying with her father.

Reynolds told WCSH, “With what was shown to me, I don’t see how any child can survive that… All I can picture when I close my eyes is the blood that I saw.”

In January 2012, investigators revealed that Ayla’s blood had been found, but offered no further details except that the amount discovered was more than what would be produced by a small cut, according to CNN.

Several months later in May, authorities announced Ayla was likely dead.

Police have also publicly stated that the 20-month-old was not kidnapped and that foul play was involved in her disappearance.

Ayla’s father, Justin DiPietro, reported her missing from his home on the morning of Dec. 17, 2011. He told police that the last time he saw the child was around 8:00 p.m. the night before. The little girl had been placed in his custody just weeks before, while Ayla’s mother was reportedly in rehab for substance abuse.

Shortly after Ayla vanished, Reynolds stated that following a final visit with her father, Ayla returned bruised, however, DiPietro disputed her claims calling them “insinuations.”

No one has been arrested or charged in the case.

Ayla is described as 2-foot-9, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen on the night of Dec. 16, wearing green pajamas with polka dots with words on them that read, “Daddy’s Princess.” The child also has a cast on her left arm. Anyone with information regarding Ayla Reynolds is urged to call Waterville Police at 207-680-4700.
