On Oct. 23, 2013, artist, painter and illustrator Marc Remus, from Frankfurt, Germany, shared with ventwing.com about his current exhibition in Frankfurt. “Expedition Mexico” began Oct. 11 and runs to Dec. 14.
This exhibition’s early beginnings started almost a year ago. In Nov. 2012 Marc Remus won an art competition. His Mayan painting won two awards, in two categories, at Frankfurt’s Mexican Consulate. Remus won “Most Popular Artist” and “Most Popular Painting.”
Since that 2012 win Remus has worked hard at what he loves. This current exhibition contains about 20 of Remus’ new pieces as well as some of his works from previous years.
“Over 250 invited guests came to the opening exhibit at the Consulate General of Mexico from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. Art historian Dorothe Werner gave an introduction speech. She also gave a tour at 7 p.m., and I gave one at 8 p.m.” – Marc Remus
Remus welcomed everyone at the event in German and Spanish. Donations were collected for a family in need in Honduras.
“The donation for the Honduran family is a project I have done at every opening.”
One of the media represented that night was Rhein-Main TV. They filmed and interviewed Remus. Guests at the exhibition, as well as the television audience, were able to learn more about this talented artist and his art.
Marc Remus’ future in art began when he lived with relatives in North America. As a young man he moved to the United States and graduated from a high school that emphasized art. Remus often traveled with his family, and Mexico was one country they frequently visited.
Remus has traveled to Mexico about twenty times. He told ventwing.com that he loves the country.
“Part of my family lives in Arizona, and they have Mexican roots.”
Another artistic influence for Marc Remus was that of Japan. He moved there in the 90s and studied Sumi-E painting and woodblock printing. In addition, Remus studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
“I have also studied cultural anthropology with a major in Mesoamerican cultures.”
