Temperatures will rise to the 80s this afternoon, only to pull back tomorrow into the upper 70s behind a frontal boundary that pushes through the region late tonight. Temperatures are expected to re-surge back to the lower 80s Friday, then middle 80s Saturday and Sunday, and to near 90 possible by early next week.

Wednesday afternoon will feature great visibilities, light winds, and temperatures in the 80s under unlimited sunshine. A front will sag south through the area late tonight. A very, very slight chance of a very isolated sprinkle or shower exists. Other than that our next chance of rain does not come until late Saturday evening and overnight into Sunday associated with another frontal boundary. The western portions of North Central Illinois remains very dry as downpour generating storms stayed mostly to Rockford’s east last Friday and over the weekend. Organized rains will stay to the west, north, and east as Rockford sits on the edge of an upper air high pressure ridge centered over the Rocky Mountains, and surface High pressure located just off to our south.
The overall pattern does not look to be changing anytime soon. High pressure will dominate and as the surface high and upper ridge drifts slowly east, southerly winds will push warmer air into the region starting on Friday. Dry and above normal temperatures appear likely through the middle of September. With the lack of rain and the above normal temperatures the last few weeks of August, and the forecasted above normal temperatures over the next week, only look to make the situation worse for area farmers.
Temperatures Friday through Tuesday will depending on timing and amount or precipitation and also the amount of cloud cover in the area. If we receive less precipitation and clouds than currently forecast, temperatures may need to be boosted Friday/Saturday and early next week. Next week looks to start very warm and humid with temperatures approaching 90 degrees.
