There is a little boy in South Carolina named Noah. He’s seven years old. Like most boys of that age, Noah loves Legos, dinosaurs and sea monsters, among other things. But Noah is not like other boys his age. Noah experiences the world from his bed or his wheelchair. Noah has mitochondrial disease. The disease is progressive and untreatable.
Noah and his family need help. The Estes family is a big, noisy, loving family with eight kids from five to 20 years of age. They love to go places and do things. They include Noah in almost everything to savor each and every memory. And now that ability to make memories is sorely jeopardized. In, fact, Noah’s ability to get to his medical care is in jeopardy.
Noah Estes needs to be transported in a bus with a special lift and room for all of his medical equipment. Taking Noah to the doctor or anywhere, for that matter, is like an expedition with tons of medications, tubes and machinery.
To get the funds to purchase a suitable bus, the Estes family put on a huge carnival and online auction of donated items two years ago. Miraculously, they made enough to purchase a used bus. Sadly, that bus is now on its last leg.
A fundraiser has been established to help the Estes family purchase a new bus. This type of vehicle is not cheap. The estimated cost for a reliable used bus is approximately $20,000. This amount would provide a vehicle that doesn’t turn into the proverbial “money pit” for the Estes family. This is far from pocket change for many of us. The Estes family needs help. Can you please donate a dollar to help them get the wheels they need for Noah?
I have talked about donations before and a lot of people say to me, “Carla, what can $1 do?” My answer is, “Maybe not much on its own, but if you put it together with everybody else’s dollars, miracles happen!” A beach is made out of many, many, many grains of sand.
Noah Estes can’t walk, he can’t eat and he can’t play like other kids. His life is tubes and meds 24/7. Still, he is a happy child with a big bright smile for everybody, especially his seven brothers and sisters. His mom, Kate, manages most of his daily medical care, which is time-consuming and difficult, but Kate wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kate & Jeff Estes
Meet Kate and Jeff Estes, Noah’s mom & dad. Kate and Jeff have been married for 22 years. They run a small homeschool supply and educational toy business called Hands and Hearts.

He runs the family’s small business and he also works part time as an industrial trainer at various industries in upstate South Carolina. Jeff is looking for full-time work.
Kate stays really busy homeschooling the family and running the home, not to mention taking care of Noah’s medical needs. Kate loves to read, sew, bake, can and indulge in the occasional treat from Starbucks.
Meet Hannah Grace, the funny, charming 20-year-old eldest kid of the Estes clan. Hannah loves “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock”, anything to do with C.S. Lewis and/or J.R.R. Tolkien, coffee, and peace and quiet, when and if she can get it in this big, loving but noisy household. Hannah is a gifted writer who is taking classes at a local Bible Institute, as well as studying online. Hannah babysits and cleans houses to help with the family income.
Meet William Estes, the family’s oldest son. William has a dry sense of humor and the heart of a servant. He loves all things to do with cars and sports and is a huge NASCAR fan. He just got back from a missions trip with Confrontation Point Ministries where he worked in an area damaged by the KY/TN floods. He’s a big fan of the Blue Angels and enjoys watching “Mythbusters” on Netflix. He builds amazing replicas of real buildings using Minecraft. He has a deep desire to help others and is the most dependable, reliable young man you could possibly find!
Meet Matthew Estes. Matthew is 16 years old and a compassionate, extremely bright and creative young man. Matthew has a warrior’s spirit and very quick sense of humor. He loves reading, playing Minecraft, airsoft and anything related to building and/or engineering. He’s a huge ‘Doctor Who” fan and is starting to develop skills in digital photography and computers.
Timothy is 14 years old and has a gentle spirit and a very large heart. He’s very good with children and loves to surprise those he loves with thoughtful little gifts. Timothy is a big movie fan and he loves building Lego models. He is an avid reader, active in church activities and participates in the church’s youth group.
David is 13 years old and the family artist. He’s also a voracious reader and loves learning new things. He is funny and very creative. David loves “Doctor Who” just like the older kids and is a big fan of “Lord of the Rings.” His somewhat goofy sense of humor keeps the whole family smiling!
10-year-old Sarah is the Estes family’s animal lover and nature girl. She is most likely to be found outside and/or with some living creature in her hands (or even in her pockets!). She is the caretaker of the family pets and volunteers at a local animal rescue. Sarah loves to cook and bake with Mom, do arts and crafts projects and get together with her friends. She is a warm, affectionate young lady who is always trying to help.
And here’s Noah, the star of our show here. Noah is seven years old. You can read about his lifelong struggles with Mitochondrial Disease HERE.
That’s the technical stuff. There’s a lot more to Noah Estes. For instance, Noah is a huge Angry Birds fan. He also loves octopuses, dragons and Legos. He is very affectionate and social and nothing makes his day more than having a visitor stop by. He enjoys arts and crafts and is crazy about stickers. He loves the Lord and his family and often surprises us with his spiritual insights or tender and loving statements. He’s equally likely to surprise us with one of his hilarious little jokes or funny observations.
Mary Faith Estes
Mary Faith is five years old and the Estes family’s little princess. She is all girly girl. She loves princesses, fairies, dancing, dressing up, tea parties, getting her nails done and taking long bubble baths. She is a cuddly, loving child and is always eager to please. She charms the socks off of everyone she meets! Mary Faith’s favorite color is purple.
